Antique Punjab Rajputana Wedding Horses Baraat Ghodi And Ghoda Pair. In traditional Punjab and Rajputana communities in India, a wedding holds special significance and is proceeded by days of traditional rituals and goings on. One well know tradition is the baraat or grooms procession to the brides location.

The ritual can vary from village to village. The groom mounts a white mare (a ghodi) and a procession is formed, along with music and celebrants from the grooms family. This tradition is so beloved that is now adopted throughout India (with many variations), and also has been incorporated into many western weddings.

The ghodi is adorned with a costume and embellishments that match or compliment the grooms lavish attire. Common colors used are red, green and gold. Several times in the festivities and rituals, gifts are exchanged. In certain communities replicas of the procession animal (in this case horses) would be given as a reminder of the events.

These are Indian made replicas of wedding procession horses. It is extremely rare to find a set like these.

There is one mare (ghodi) and one horse (ghoda). Though they are weathered from time and being handled (they were originally white as dictated by tradition), you can still ascertain the original color in certain spots (see photos). They are likely mid to late 1800s to early 1900s. But are in remarkably good shape and even more remarkably, still together as a pair.

They look to be hand painted and hand made of joined teak wood, an India native species. The mare measures approx 10 tall x 9 3/4 long x 2 7/8 wide. The horse measures approx 10 tall x 10 long x 2 7/8 wide.

Unique opportunity to find a set like this. Would make an awesome gift for Indian newlyweds. We do our best to help you get exactly what you want.
